Therapy contract information

This page offers essential details about the counselling process and our professional agreement. My goal is to ensure you feel confident and well-informed as we begin working together. During our first session, we will review and discuss the therapy contract to make sure everything is clear and transparent.

Understanding Confidentiality

As your therapist I recognise the need to respect confidentiality.

Normally, the content of each session will be held in confidence between you and, from time to time, myself and my Clinical Supervisor.

An important part of both the NCPS and COSCA Ethical Frameworks are that Therapists are supported by a Clinical Supervisor,  with whom they discuss their work.

This is to ensure that the therapist is working ethically and that the therapy is serving the client in the best way possible.

I receive monthly supervision.

From time to time, I may discuss aspects of our work with my Clinical Supervisor but would keep your identity anonymised within this.

 Limits of Confidentiality

Exceptionally, I will involve outside agencies when harm to a client, or others, is considered a serious risk.

In such circumstances, if possible, I will first discuss the situation with you and then agree a course of action.

If necessary, I may ask you to sign an ‘Authorisation to Share Information’ form.

There are circumstances, however, when the law requires me to break confidentiality without informing you or gaining your consent.

These relate to the Terrorism Act (2000), the Children Act (1989/2004),

the Drug Trafficking Offences Act (1986- amended by the Criminal Justice Act 1993), the Road Traffic Act (1988), and court orders.

If you have any questions or concerns about these limitations to confidentiality, you can discuss them with me at any time.

Sessions & Cancelations

Sessions

Therapy Sessions will last 50 minutes, weekly or fortnightly depending on our agreement.

The agreed time and day will be yours for the duration of our agreement, unless circumstances make it necessary for us to review this.

A minimum of 6 sessions is necessary for our work together to evolve.

Cancelations

A 48-hour cancelation notice will apply if you need to cancel a session.

Please email or contact me (please leave a voicemail if I’m unable to answer) if you would like to cancel or move sessions.

Failure to notify me 48 hours prior to your session will result in the full agreed session fee being charged.

Boundaries

Counselling is a professional relationship, which means we won’t have contact outside of sessions beyond scheduling.

Our agreement limits our contact between sessions solely for the purpose of administrative planning between us.

We can agree your preferred mode of communication for this – phone call, text or email.

I won’t accept social media requests or gifts, but please know your appreciation is always valued.

To maintain the professional nature of our relationship, it is important to avoid dual relationships. This means that our interactions should remain within the context of counselling sessions, and we should not engage in any other relationship outside of this setting.

This helps to ensure clear boundaries and to protect the integrity of the therapeutic process.

If you ever feel uncomfortable about anything, I encourage you to discuss this with me so that we can work together on a resolution.

My contact hours are between 9am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.

I do not provide emergency crisis support—please contact Samaritans (116 123) or NHS 111 for urgent assistance.
